Regenerative Therapies
Harness Your Body’s Healing Power for TMJ and Facial Pain Relief
Evidence-informed regenerative therapies support tissue repair and reduce inflammation, without surgery or long-term medication use. These cutting-edge treatments use your body’s own healing mechanisms to address musculoskeletal, joint, and nerve-related conditions affecting the face, jaw, and neck.

At Advanced TMJ Maxillofacial Pain & Sleep Center in Seattle, we offer regenerative injection therapies including Prolotherapy and Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) to promote natural healing of the TMJ and surrounding ligaments. These minimally invasive, non-surgical treatments are designed to help patients with joint instability, ligament strain, and persistent TMJ pain avoid long-term medications or surgery. We serve patients across Seattle, Bellevue, Kent, Renton, and the greater Puget Sound area.
What Are Regenerative Therapies?
Regenerative therapies are minimally invasive biologic treatments that stimulate the body’s ability to repair and regenerate damaged tissues. They are particularly effective in managing chronic pain, degenerative joint conditions, ligament or muscle injuries, and post-traumatic symptoms that have not responded to conventional treatment.

We currently offer two regenerative approaches:

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy
PRP therapy involves drawing a small sample of your blood, concentrating the platelets through centrifugation, and injecting the platelet-rich layer into targeted areas such as the TMJ or masticatory muscles. Platelets release growth factors that promote cellular healing, reduce inflammation, and enhance tissue remodeling.

PRP May Benefit Patients With:
-
Chronic muscle pain or myofascial trigger points
-
Post-traumatic TMJ or jaw pain
-
Tendon or ligament microtears
Evidence suggests PRP injections can improve TMJ joint pain and function in patients with internal derangements or early degenerative changes (Alves et al., J Oral Maxillofac Surg, 2019).

Prolotherapy (Proliferation Therapy)
Prolotherapy involves injecting a mild irritant solution—usually dextrose—into ligaments, tendons, or joint spaces. This stimulates a localized inflammatory response that activates tissue repair and strengthens the surrounding structures over time.

Prolotherapy Is Often Used For:
-
TMJ hypermobility or joint instability
-
Ligament laxity contributing to jaw clicking or locking
-
Chronic postural or joint-related facial pain
-
Early-stage degenerative joint disease
Multiple studies show prolotherapy can reduce TMJ pain and improve joint stability, especially in patients with recurrent joint subluxation or dislocation (Refai et al., Int J Oral Maxillofac Surg, 2017).

Why Choose Regenerative Therapy? Regenerative Therapy benefits
-
Minimally invasive and well tolerated
-
Can delay or avoid surgery
-
Natural alternative to long-term medications or corticosteroids
-
Personalized based on your diagnosis and pain history
-
Safe when performed by trained specialists under sterile conditions

Are These Treatments Right for You?
Not every patient is a candidate for regenerative therapy. A thorough evaluation by our specialist, including history, clinical exam, and imaging , will determine whether PRP or prolotherapy is appropriate for your condition.
